Hidden Blade --Pippa DaCosta

Fiction / Urban Fantasy

I loved this! Yes, it's a little short by some standards, but it moves fast, and is a heckuvalotta fun! A book needs to be long enough to tell the story, not longer, not shorter. There are enough pages in this book for the story. No more, and no less.

DaCosta has built a fantastic world, populated by humans (it is, after all, our world) and several of the demons and gods from Ancient Egypt. These are not your "usual" zombies or weres or shapeshifters. No, these are badass gods and goddesses who don't take "No" for an answer. From anyone, including a lessor god or goddess.

Ace is a liar, a thief, and the Nameless One. He was raised by Ammit, and was married to Bastet. He hates cats. He is a soul eater, and not on the best of terms with Osiris or Isis, especially after Isis has her way with his daughter, and Osiris with his (ex) wife.

What? You want to know what happened? Read the book! Is it predictable? Oh, yeah, maybe. But, y'know what, it's fun. If you don't like adult super anti heroes, who kill, who maim, who have sex, and who are generally badass dudes and dudettes, don't read this book.

If you don't like cats, you'll at least have something in common with Ace.

I enjoyed Hidden Blade enough that I just bought Witches' Bane (Soul Eater Book 2).
